Venue competition management

Run venue pool nights with less admin friction.

Create a competition, share a join code, and let the app handle scoring, standings, and live display — so you can focus on running the room instead of chasing updates.

What’s included

  • Venue Console: Web-based dashboard for creating, configuring, and managing competitions.
  • Join codes: Share a short code or QR — players join from their own phone in seconds.
  • Auto-scored leaderboard: Standings update in real time as games finish.
  • TV display: Cast a live leaderboard to a venue monitor — no extra hardware.
  • Configurable rules: Lock game type, format, match length, and house rules per competition.

How it works — for organisers

The Venue Console is a web interface for venue staff. Once you have organiser access, the full flow looks like this.

1

Create the competition

Set a title, time window, game type (8-ball or 9-ball), format (1v1 or 2v2), and scoring method. A unique join code is generated automatically.

2

Configure the rules

Choose live tracking or winner-only, set match length (race-to or best-of), and lock house rules — like scratch-on-8 or push-out — so every game is played the same way.

3

Activate & share

Move the competition from draft to active. Share the join code on a printed sheet, message group, or QR on the bar TV. Players can join from their phone instantly.

4

Watch it run

Games are auto-scored and standings update live. Turn on the TV display to keep the room engaged. When the time window closes, final standings are locked.

How it works — for players

Players don’t need organiser access. They join from the app and play as normal.

1

Join with a code

Type the join code or scan the QR. The app checks you in at the venue automatically and marks you as competing.

2

Play your games

Start a game from the competition screen and the rules, format, and tag are locked in. Finish the game normally — it counts toward the standings.

3

Check the leaderboard

Standings update after every game. Check your rank in the app, or look up at the venue TV. Go casual any time to play untagged games without leaving the competition.

Game types & formats

8-Ball

1v1 or 2v2. Live tracking with full shot recording, or winner-only for speed. Lock house rules like eight-on-break, scratch-on-8, wrong-pocket-8, three-foul loss, confirmation shots, and more.

9-Ball

1v1 format. Configure lowest-ball-first, combo/carom shots, 9-on-break, push-out rules, winner-breaks, and three-foul loss. Live tracking or winner-only.

Match length

Single game, race-to N, or best-of N (odd numbers). Set once per competition — every match follows the same format.

Tracking mode

Live: Shot-by-shot recording with rule enforcement. Winner-only: Just log who won — faster for casual nights.

2v2 teams

For 8-ball. Players pick a teammate when joining. Team invites last 72 hours. Both teammates share the same record.

Scoring systems

Pick the scoring method that fits your night. The organiser sets it when creating the competition.

Win Points

3 points per win

Simple and immediate. Play more, score more. Best for short nights where you want a clear points leader.

Win Rate

Win percentage with minimum games

Rewards consistency over volume. Players must hit a minimum game threshold before they appear on the board — no one-game wonders.

Performance Index

Win rate weighted by games played

Balances skill and commitment. Score accelerates with each game and plateaus around 20+. Ideal for longer competitions where sample size should matter.

Live venue display

Turn on the display from the Venue Console and open the link on any screen — TV, tablet, or laptop behind the bar. No app install required on the display device.

  • Real-time leaderboard updates as games finish
  • Shows rank, player name, record (W-L), and score
  • Medal icons for top-three positions
  • Competition title, venue name, game type, and time remaining
  • Public URL — no sign-in needed to view
  • Rotate between multiple active competitions

How to set it up

  1. Open the Venue Console and go to your competition
  2. Toggle Display to on
  3. Copy the display URL or scan the QR code
  4. Open the URL in a browser on your venue TV or tablet
  5. The leaderboard updates automatically — leave it running

Tip: You can rotate the display link at any time from the console if the URL has been shared too widely.

Game eligibility & tagging

The system validates every game before counting it toward the leaderboard. No manual checking required.

Tagged games only

When a player starts a game from the competition screen, it’s automatically tagged. Only tagged games count. Players can switch to casual mode any time to play side games that don’t affect the leaderboard.

Automatic validation

The system checks that the game type, format, tracking mode, match length, and rule settings all match the competition config. If anything is off, the game isn’t counted. Organisers don’t need to review games manually.

Why venues use it

Less manual chasing

Players score their own games. Standings build themselves. No one needs to find the organiser to ask who’s winning.

Better player visibility

The leaderboard is visible in the app and on the venue TV. Players stay engaged because they can see where they stand without asking.

Looks professional

A live leaderboard on the TV, consistent rules across every match, and a join code at the bar — it makes a venue competition night feel like an actual event.

FAQ

Do venues need approval to run competitions?

Yes. Venue organiser access is granted after a request — it isn’t open self-service. This keeps the system reliable and prevents misuse of venue-level features.

Is this only for big tournaments?

No. It’s built for recurring weekly pool nights and informal competitions where 6–30 players want structured scoring and a visible leaderboard without spreadsheet admin.

How do players join a competition?

They open the app and enter the join code (or scan a QR). The app checks them in at the venue and marks them as competing. For 2v2 events, they also pick a teammate.

Can players play casual games during a competition?

Yes. Players can switch to casual mode at any time. Casual games won’t be tagged and won’t affect the competition leaderboard. They can switch back without leaving the competition.

What happens if a game doesn’t match the competition rules?

The system validates game type, format, tracking mode, match length, and individual rule settings. If anything doesn’t match, the game is not counted toward the leaderboard.

Does the venue TV display need a login?

No. The display URL is public. Just open it in a browser on any screen. The leaderboard updates in real time without authentication.

Which scoring method should I choose?

Win Points for short, fast nights. Win Rate for skill-focused events with enough games. Performance Index for longer competitions where both consistency and volume should count.

Can I run multiple competitions at the same venue?

Yes. Create separate competitions in the Venue Console. Players join whichever ones they want. The TV display can rotate between active competitions automatically.
